Chapter 48. Grief
ASHLENE
I arrived home a little after 3 in the afternoon. There was no one in the house yet, aside from the housekeepers and the cleaners. I took this opportunity to enjoy the quiet.
“Shall I bring this to your room, miss?” Hendry asked, referring to the bags I dropped on the front porch.
“Yes, please. Thank you.”
He lifted them, holding one in each hand. The master bedroom upstairs was never locked, except in cases when either Dylan or I locked it, so I didn’t accompany Hendry. Instead, I did some stretches. It had been very tiresome, but it gave me the experience I anticipated. It gave me the feeling of being a real lawyer. Like it was true.
Lyle’s presentation turned out to be the crowd’s favorite. The whole time he was onstage, discussing laws and new jurisprudence, everyone’s attention was on him.
