Chapter 71

I opened my eyes to a blank white ceiling above me. A sharp pain shot through my head. I grabbed the armrest for support, holding my head with both my palms. I glanced around the surroundings, my eyes going to the mess I had created. They caught my phone lying flush on the carpet floor. I had thrown it away in anger.
Reaching out to it, I switched it on. Messages began coming in. Somehow, I wished I would see a message from Rose, yet found none. All the messages were from Ian. Some were threatening words, some calm. Ian was the best. It didn’t matter how much I used to piss him off; he still came around. He’s that kind of friend that I would not want to lose, as much as I angered him sometimes. As if he knew I was thinking about him, his call came through.
I picked it up and placed it to my ear but didn’t say anything. “Are you dead?” came his voice. A laugh almost escaped me. What sort of question was that? Ian will never change.
