Chapter 58. Why Can’t I Remember?

Simon’s POV

I woke to voices around me, and my head was pounding to the point that I felt sick to the pit of my stomach. What had happened to me? I blinked a few times and tried to clear the haze of fog that had shrouded my mind. As the voices grew clearer, I could make out snippets of conversation and realise that I must be in the hospital.

“He’s still unconscious, and we are doing everything we can to make him comfortable and keep him stable.” one voice insisted, and the curtain around me was pulled back to reveal two nurses. Their eyes widened in astonishment when they saw me sitting up awake, and it was as if they had seen a ghost.

“What happened to me? Why am I here?” I managed to choke out the words.

“Get the doctor immediately.” One of the nurses commanded, and the other one hopped to it.

I tried to move, but my limbs felt strange and heavy. My heart raced, and a cold sweat formed on my brow. Taking a deep breath, I inhaled the sterile sce
