Chapter 71. On the Count of Three

Evelyn’s POV

My heart raced as the voice echoed through the silence. I exchanged a terrified glance with Griffin. I had never seen him look this afraid before.

“Griffin, who is that?” I whispered, trying not to let my own fear inflict my tone. He shook his head and refused to meet my questioning gaze. Pushing Ethan to me, he gestured me to remain still and silent.

“Griffin, I will give you one more chance to hand them both over, otherwise you know what will happen.” The voice continued, dripping with menace and it felt like whoever it was, was coming closer to finding us. Ethan squirmed in my arms and I placed a hand on his leg to steady him. My heart broke at the thought of what might happen if we were caught by this crazy fool. They were not going to leave anytime soon and I was weighing up my thoughts to make a run for it.

“Dammit,” Griffin mumbled beside me.

“Do you know them? What are you planning?” I suddenly scowled at Griffin as it dawned
