Chapter 12. Agreeing to Pay Him Off
“You want to know what your brother has done? He was working for a year under Bruce at our Chicago distribution center. He had gone to collect a lump sum payment from one of our major clients. It was a cash transaction, as the client had demanded. Brandon had done this many times before and he hadn’t given us any cause to distrust him, but this time he just disappeared with the money,” seethed a tremendously angry Nikolas.
Brooklyn listened to him with a horrified expression on her face. She knew her twin too well. They might be poor, but they weren’t thieves. Brandon would never steal.
“Are you sure that he isn’t into any sort of trouble, Mr. Ardolf? I know my twin. He’s not a thief. He would never run away with your money. If he hadn’t done it before, then why would he do it now?”
