“What are you looking for?” She looked up, startled.

“My bank papers, cheque book, and debit card are all missing. I used to keep them in an envelope.” She was afraid that someone might have stolen the envelope from her handbag last night.

Nikolas started the ignition, maneuvering the car out of his garage. “The envelope is with me,” he told her without even glancing at her.

Brooklyn looked at him with a blank expression on her face. Why did he need her bank details? Did he doubt her? Did he think that she and Brandon had deposited his money into her account? Her account had only her salary deposited from the restaurant, which went to pay for the loan she had taken for her mom’s treatment.
