Chapter 59

Nadine 

Don’t get me wrong; I’m glad she’s making the effort to call me, even though I haven’t been doing the same. I stare at the phone, wondering if I should pick it up.

She’s stuck around for so long. She came to our office for training and stayed with me even after she went back to Canada.

The phone suddenly stops ringing, and I pull my eyes away from it, trying to gather my thoughts. Then it starts ringing again.

I know I have to answer because she won’t stop calling until she hears from me. So, I swipe the phone and answer the call.

“Nadine,” she breathes out in relief, “you got me so worried.”

I hear the concern in her voice, and it makes me feel a bit better. But my voice chokes with tears as I realize how much she cares for me, even though I haven’t been there for her.

“Nadine, are you alright?” she asks as tears start flowing down my cheeks.

I don’t want to say anything because I don’t want her to know I
