She went quiet for a moment, probably trying to ruminate on another lie, but I wasn’t going to let her. I was done being lied to. I wasn’t going to be tricked into doing anything again.
I angrily swiped at tears. The way I was giving in to these emotions was already upsetting me more than the crying itself. I didn’t need this. I needed to be strong. For myself. For Lia. She needed me to survive, and I needed to survive too. That was why I was going to fight tooth and nail to make sure I found my way out of here.
