Chapter 47. It's Time to Go

Carla couldn't join Lena and me to see the witch. I knew Lena would feel uncomfortable. She already had enough issues; she didn't need to fight with Carla today.

"I don't think it's a good idea, Carla. She and I need to do this together. It's about her and me."

"But I'm your wife, Dean. I understand the gravity of the situation, but I won't stay here waiting for you. I'm your wife, Dean. It's time for you to respect me. I promise not to say a word during the trip. And I'll behave. I'll greet Lena as if we were the best of friends."

"You can't, I'm sorry," I refused.

Carla wiped the smile off her face; my response didn't please her.

"Either I go, or I leave. It's that simple, Dean," she warned. Carla looked at me I had never seen before. I sensed manipulation in her eyes.

"Excuse me? Are you threatening me?"
