Chapter 24
Winter’s POV
Just as the woman raised her hand to pull at my veil, Lucas’s voice echoed through the hall.
“Eliza!”
Relief washed over me in an instant. The woman promptly bowed and greeted him.
“Take care of the spilled water in my room,” he told her, and she left, leaving me alone with Lucas.
He gave me a reassuring look in his eyes.
I whispered a quick “thank you” to him and then turned away, quickly walking to my room. When I got in, I closed the door and let out a sigh of relief. It felt like my heart was about to burst out of my chest back there.
Eliza rushed towards me, “I got so scared something had happened.”
I smiled at her and went to sit on my bed. “Thank you.”
She poured me some water and encouraged me to drink. I gulped down the water and returned the cup to her. Then, I lay down on the bed, clasping my hands over my stomach, and looked at Eliza, who was also gazing at me with gentleness.
