Chapter 56

Winter’s POV

It was the end-of-year festival, as well as a time for me to fix the cracks I’ve made in my relationship with Lucas. I had been avoiding him and keeping my distance from him, giving excuses to limit our meetings. I couldn’t understand why I was doing that to him and to myself, and tonight was the night to put a stop to my indecisive ways. Lucas deserved as much of my love as he could get.

I had barely responded to his letters, and even when we arranged private meetings, I had one excuse or another to avoid them, with my excuses being about the need to be cautious of the many eyes around us, but deep down, I knew it was more than that.

The yellow dress he brought was on one side, and the green one Lordan sent me was on the other. Why did making a choice seem daunting?

“I’ll take the yellow one,” I told Eliza.

If I was going to the festival to sort things out with Lucas, I should at least wear the dress he wanted to see me in. I slippe
