Winter’s POV
I faced Eliza in the midst of the whipping rain.
“You betrayed him,” she accused.
“Eliza, wait, let me explain.”
She shook her head, pained, “There’s nothing else to be said. This was the last chance, the last time for me to make a decision about my stance.”
I closed the distance between us, rain soaking through my clothes, “What do you mean? What are you talking about?”
Eliza’s gaze held a finality that sent a chill down my spine.
“I’ve gotten my clear answer. I don’t want to have anything to do with you anymore.”
“No, Eliza, don’t do that,” I begged.
She was my only friend. I couldn’t afford her leaving me. But the initial reason for our friendship was Lucas, and her allegiance was with him, not me. If she saw that I was working against his interests, she was bound to retaliate.
