Chapter 22. The Offering
Keme kissed the back of Chepi’s hand and fled into the forest to find a big enough bounty for her tribe. Once he was confident that he was out of her sight, he took to his wolf form to better track the animals with his keen snout. A buffalo’s scent rushed through his nostrils an hour into the hunt. He crouched in his wolf-like position, intent on killing the giant beast, and then sprang up it with a quick hit to its side. The buffalo put up a decent fight, but it ended with a swift blow to the animal’s jugular. He carried the prey through the woods on his back and grew impatient, waiting to gaze upon Chepi’s expression, seeing his hunt for her in tow. The sun was just about to creep over the horizon when he noticed her walking through some brush, and he quickly turned back into human form just before their eyes met.
“My eyes must be deceiving me!” Chepi said as she ran towards Keme. “You really did it! The gods do favor you! Oh, thank you, Keme!” She said as she looked down at
