Chapter 23. The Full Truth
Chepi came face to face with the eyes of a wolf as she turned a corner down the wooded path. It was the most enormous wolf she’d ever seen. His fur was midnight black, and his eyes were a regal, royal yellow. As she met the wolf’s gaze, the eyes softened into a familiarity. They belonged to Keme, and there was no mistaking it.
She heard the rumors that the gods gave a unique gift to him, and now she had proof that he was no ordinary hunter. She recognized by his hesitation that he did not want her to see him in this state.
Keme plagued all of her thoughts during the walk home to the village. Kissing him was all she could think about. She ached to talk with him about her growing feelings toward him. She was grateful to him for hunting for her tribe; her appreciation could have been just that. An ache in her lower abdomen compelled her to discover if he, too, wanted her as much as she wanted him.
As she ran over to him, she witnessed him change back to his human form
