“What you seek is easy, but it’s hard to maintain, Keme. You are new to your powers, and the focus you would need to control the beast within you is advanced training.”

“Yes. It is unfortunate about Matchitehew.”
“He was such a good man. A skilled warrior! How could he allow his wolf to overcome him and kill a human? It’s not his nature to hurt anyone, especially those he respects. Matchitehew hunted side by side with Cochise when they were old enough to handle spears. This is my fault. I should have been with Matchitehew instead of with Chepi.” Keme said while pounding a fist on Zhang’s rosewood altar table.
“Keme, this is not your fault! Matchitehew was the one who chose his destiny. Not you.”
“But now, because of him, my destiny is being written for me. They will kill me if they find out that I can shift, too. Or worse! They might go after Chepi to get to me! I have to protect her!”
