Chapter 129. Avoiding a Trap
“Jonathan Foster,” Fiona said. “Jonathan Foster is the only one who’s ever gotten away from my dad’s vicious trap.”
“You’re going to have to tell me how he got away with it,” Carlos told her.
“Well, the first thing he did was not do what you’re attempting to do,” she said. “And it’s the most likely move for someone in the underworld, so he knows without a doubt that you’d try to pull it. And he’ll be waiting to bring you down with it.”
Carlos cursed. To think that he was just about to fall into Clyde McCarthy’s trap, and not just alone—he’d be bringing down all the executives and staff in his company with him. He looked at Fiona and felt extremely grateful.
“So then, if I don’t do that, how do I avoid this?” Carlos asked. “A more direct approach to speak to them is going to be met with contempt by the general public.”
“And that,” Fiona began, “is why you discredit them first, and discredit them hard.”
Carlos nodded to show that he was listening.
