Chapter 22. First Aid Kit
Sunset was still far, maybe it was a few minutes past two in the afternoon.
We were now sitting in the field, on the grass. Silence filled the air, except for the sounds of nature.
“My mom hates me,” I began, breaking the silence. “She used to be so nice at first. She used to be the best mom ever. But since my Dad died, it was like that last of her died too. She broke.”
A knot started forming in my throat as I explained.
“Your dad used to be in the pack’s army, right?”
I nodded, bringing my knees close to my chest and hugging them. “I don’t really remember much from him, he died when I was younger. Sometimes, I sit and think, what if he had not gone out and had stayed home like my mom had asked him. He would have still been alive. And my mom would have still been kind.”
