I watched him take another carriage and leave. I expected him to use the same one we had used to bring us here, but maybe it was not going where he worked—at the border.
I peeled my eyes away from the road and started to head into the small brick house. Noah was done cooking because I could smell some food.
When I was inside, he made his way from the kitchen and headed towards me. Then he stopped, wiping his hands on the apron that he was wearing. “Gus said that today’s your birthday and that you need me to trai you.”
