Chapter 18. Another Old Memory
The news of our engagement made it to the top headlines the very next morning. Wow! Phoenix walks behind, looking over at the paper in my hands, and I freeze. He is doing that a lot.
“The ring looks really pretty on you.” He says, his hands brushing over my fingers.
“The ring is pretty.”
“You make it prettier.”
I turn my head to look at him and find that he is already staring at me.
He is evil.
He taps the tip of my nose with his finger before walking off, and I stare at his back, confused. He seems surprisingly in a good mood. I look over at the ring in my hand, and suddenly, it looks so heavy- Phoenix Farrington’s fiancé.
I don’t have any work today because I covered Sarah’s shift last night, so I am eating one of the cookies I baked with Phoenix yesterday. The memory instantly makes me smile as I take a small bite.
Someone snatches my cookie from behind me, and I look up to see it is Phoenix.
“Hey, that’s mine.” I scold him mo
