Chapter 8. Home, Finally

Penelope couldn’t stop thanking Lucas for being there for her. She couldn’t stop gushing about how relieved she was to be alone with him.

“It was all because to you that the guilt I’d felt every time I gazed into Elijah’s eyes and the conscience that had been tormenting me every night had vanished.”

Eventually, after six years of not knowing who his father was, Elijah met Dylan, and Lucas was the one who persuaded her to introduce the child to his father. Penelope’s fear that she would never meet a man like Lucas drove her to want to keep this man by her side.

“I can finally see that smile after days of worrying about it,” Lucas remarked as he drew Penelope into his arms. Penelope closed her eyes and recalled the intensity of Lucas’ hug. Lucas has always supported her. He never let her face her battles alone.

When she felt Lucas’s fingers caressing her hair, a smile crept across her lips. “But, I believe the initial issue has been rectified. Wasn’t it time to
