Chapter 24. Fallen
I sat quietly inside the car, watching as the sun prepared to make its appearance, still uncertain of our exact location. After our emotional conversation the previous night, Roy had driven us here. I observed him as he continued to drink, long after I had fallen asleep. I didn't feel the need to join him outside; there was nothing more to say or do at this point.
When he sensed my gaze upon him, I pretended to be asleep, as if the tinted windows could shield me from his scrutiny.
Soon, the distinct flick of a lighter reached my ears, followed by the sight of him exhaling a puff of smoke. He was smoking. I couldn't discern his level of intoxication as he had his back to me and remained still.
Minutes ticked by, and finally, he rose from his seat in the front of the car. I watched as he gathered the empty cans that had fueled his drinking spree and tied them together.
