Chapter 8
India woke with a keen cry stuck in her throat. She wanted to shout in rage, but the stupid block that held her voice in place wouldn’t let her. She couldn’t close her eyes. If she did, she saw Lottie Daniels struggling, fighting the hands that choked her, unsupported, even as life seeped from her eyes while she stood there useless, unable to do a thing to help. A woman was being killed because her past seemed to appear at the most inopportune time, creeping, stalking her, and hurting people that didn’t deserve it.
She collapsed on her bed. It cradled her with no hesitation. She lay there, her eyes open, hoping to escape from the visions that would plague her if she dared to close them.
