Chapter 58. Why Did You Run?!

Emma’s POV

I am pacing around the conference room. Circling the table over and over again.

“Would you sit down,” Duncan snaps at me. “You are making me sick watching you walk in circles.”

“Then don’t watch,” I snap back. “Where are they anyway?”

“He will be here sooner rather than later,” Duncan smiles as he looks at me.

“What are you smiling about,” I growl at him. “There is nothing to smile about.”

“I have just never seen you so worked up,” he jokes. “You act like you are about to see the devil himself.”

“It isn’t far from the truth,” I mumble under my breath.

“Now, now, Emma,” he says kindly. “Ethan wasn’t so terrible was he?”

I stop pacing the floor and flop down on one of the chairs and begin to spin around in circles like a child. “I supposed not,” I say as I watch the room spin around me. “He was kind until the end. Then he just... threw me away. Like the year that we spent together meant nothing.”
