Layla’s POV
After what felt like forever, Maddie finally pulled away, but she didn’t let go of my hands. She looked me straight in the eyes, her expression serious.
“Layla, listen to me,” she said, her voice calm but firm.
“I know you’re hurting. I know it’s frustrating not remembering anything from your past, and I also know that waiting for your memories to come back on their own must feel like hell.”
I swallowed hard, nodding slowly. She was right. It did feel like hell.
Maddie squeezed my hands. “The doctor in New York told us not to remind you of your past. He said it could be dangerous. That you should only remember on your own.”
