Chapter 13

I felt a great darkness surrounding me as I began to regain consciousness. I had no sense of time or even where I was at the moment. All I could see was this darkness that seemed to be coiling around me.

I tried to move. I tried to scream.

It made the darkness squeeze itself around me tighter. I stared in fear as the darkness morphed into the head of a giant black snake with demonic yellow eyes. The snake hissed at me before lunging forward with its mouth wide open, ready to devour me.

“No!” I screamed out as I woke up. I was flailing about like prey, desperately trying to escape a predator.

“Miss!” A chocolate skinned woman in a white doctor’s coat appeared at my side. “You are safe,” she tried to calm me.

My eyes met hers, and my fear began to leave me. She gazed at me with such soft and caring eyes.

“Please calm down. I do not want you to hurt yourself,” she told me as I stopped flailing.
