Chapter 53

Daring made me stand next to the door of the study as he set up his satchel on the other side of the room. Andra stood next to me, her anxiety palpable.

“It will be fine,” I reassured her. “I am sure nothing serious will happen.”

“A grimoire is a very powerful item, mistress. If it is your grimoire from a past life, who knows what kind of powers would be unleashed if you were reunited with it?” Andra expressed.

“But, if I do respond to it, then there is no doubt about who I am,” I countered.

“Do you doubt that you are who we think you to be?” she asked.

“Of course I do. While I may have some memories of a past life, who’s to say that those memories are not false memories?” I questioned. “Who’s to say that my mind had not already been corrupted to the point that my identity is not what you claim it to be?”

Andra sighed as she nodded her head. “I understand now why you wish to see the book… you hope to get rid of your own doubts,” she responded.
