Chapter 14. Alterations
Lilly’s POV
“Oh!” I exclaimed, catching sight of my reflection in the mirror.
The elder woman, Mary, had saved me from embarrassment. Once again, I looked like a princess.
“You look stunning in this gown,” she praised.
The dress wasn’t as stylish as the first, but it was just as beautiful.
“Mary,” I said, taking her hands in mine, “it’s perfect. How will I ever repay you for your kindness?”
Mary smiled, releasing my hands to finish tying the buttons on the back of the dress.
“Just go have fun,” she replied. “That’s more than enough payment for me.”
“You have no idea how much your generosity means to me,” I whispered, my voice cracking.
“All done,” she said, and I turned to face her.
“Thank you!” I exclaimed, tears welling in my eyes. “You are a lifesaver!”
“Now,” she said with a hint of sternness, “don’t ruin this dress with tears…”
I quickly wiped them away, careful not to smudge my makeup.
