Chapter 59. I Can’t Do This

I was thoroughly exhausted from fighting Claws for more than an hour. I could barely stand on my feet right now and had to lean on Kaelan as we headed home.

But rather than return to the castle, we headed to another direction of the forest. A few minutes later, the temple came into view.

The temple was built in the middle of the forest, and it has probably seen more than ten generations.

Because even the stone pillars were cracked.

This is the place where all fallen warriors were given their last respect. Kaelan must be in a hurry to have them buried. Otherwise, he wouldn’t be heading to this place right away.

I followed Kaelan as he walked briskly ahead, his shoulders stiff, and his fists clenched at his sides. He had barely spoken since we left the other side of the forest.

“Baby,” Kaelan’s voice broke through my thoughts, low and edged with frustration. “We’re here.”

I forced myself to look up.
