Chapter 19

Stephen's POV

I stopped completely when I lost her trail as if she had disappeared from that place by magic, although I could hear a distant scream, so I started to run in the direction from which it seemed to me that the scream had come; I could not let the possibility that it had been her escape.

I could hear the noise my paws made as I ran over the wet ground occasionally breaking off a branch until I stopped as the smell of her was stronger than ever. I walked carefully until I saw her lying on the ground as raindrops fell on her body; she was wearing the white dress I saw her in last time, but now it was much dirtier and soaked. I breathed in the air, but I didn’t perceive the smell of anyone else, so I approached her, moving her face with my muzzle. Her body was somewhat frozen, and she seemed to be unconscious.

I moved
