Chapter 19
Grace’s POV
He grabbed the bottle of wine from me and fetched another glass before we moved out of the kitchen to the living room.
We sat on the floor like kids and watched the film in quiet. I found myself stealing glances at him, wondering what kind of man he was underneath all of this.
“Can you stop staring? You’re gonna make me shy,” he said and laughed a little when I blushed beetroot.
“How did you notice if you weren’t looking yourself?” I challenged and turned to him.
His eyes got dark with desire, and he scooted over to sit right next to me. He smelled like fresh water and soap and a deeper, musky scent that made me ache in the right places.
“I can’t help it, Grace. There’s something about you that makes it difficult to focus, no matter how hard I try.”
His words slammed into me like a pack of bricks, and I swallowed hard. “Why is that?” I asked, terrified of his answer.
He didn’t reply, only bent down his head
