“What are the types of anemia?” I asked, wanting to know more.
“We have various types of anemia; the information I have is mostly tailored to the physiology of humans, but I think you can still apply it to animals or not, but I did tell you what I know. When there is large blood loss, we have a type of anemia where the red blood cells become too small in size. Remember that iron is the substance used in the synthesis of Hb. When an animal loses too much blood, it, therefore, loses loads of iron since a lot of iron content in the body is in the blood. When iron is lost, Hb is not present in sufficient quantities for the red blood cells to be well-formed, leading to small underdeveloped red blood cells, a condition called microcytic hypochromic anemia,” she explained.
