Chapter 45. Look Like the Bride
Andrew looked out the tinted windows at the trees that lined the road. The goal was simple. Drop the gifts and Elaine’s phone then leave. She wouldn’t even have to know he visited the town.
“How far to the church?”
“A few more minutes, sir,” his driver, Jamal, answered from beyond the screen door.
Andrew’s eyes caught sight of a fork on the other side of the road. A woman in a white dress ran toward the fork, her red hair flowed in the wind and her hands pushed her glasses up the sides of her face.
Was the bride running away?
“Stop the car.”
“Sir?”
“I said stop the car.”
The car jerked to a stop. Andrew opened the door and walked out while his driver tried to reach for the door handle on the other side. A car drove past him as Elaine turned to the left side of the road. He crossed and stood before her.
“Elaine?”
Her eyes flew to his face. She re-sited her glasses on her face. Her eyes widened. “Andrew?”
