Chapter 52. In Private
Elaine ran toward the boardroom.
Yesterday, she thought she would spend five minutes confronting Melvin, rather than having to spend so much time with George acting as Melvin’s right wing man. Those fifty five minutes put her behind in other tasks and spilled into a snowball of lateness for the rest of the day. She’d gone to bed by 2 a.m. and woken up late for her interview with his parents at the boardroom.
Why did his grandfather think they would make the perfect couple? She couldn’t believe that he loved her. Sure, he was sort of poetic…maybe a bit romantic but it felt too good to be true and if there was one thing her time with Aunt Megan taught her, when things were too good to be true, they probably were.
She pushed open the door to the boardroom and paused when she saw strange faces of men and women dressed in expensive tailored business suits. Andrew sat at the end of the table while Annette stood behind him with some files in her hands.
