Chapter 53. The Promise
“So, how is my grandmother’s book coming along?” Andrew leaned against the door post, staring into the boardroom.
She returned here after he told Annette to dismiss her so he could find what Melvin took. He hadn’t found anything of significance missing. He couldn’t help but feel like there was more to the matter than either Annette or Elaine let on. Elaine had looked pale when he’d asked.
She sat up and shut the notepad she held, pushing her glasses up her nose and smiling at him. “Well, it’s going fine. I wanted to apologize for coming late and stumbling into your meeting-”
“You didn’t know.”
“If I had arrived earlier, I wouldn’t have walked into that. I don’t know if your parents are still in the building.”
“They left. Well, technically, they never arrived. My dad had an important engagement, and my mom tagged along.”
“And your grandfather?”
“He isn’t doing too well. So, he is staying home today. Maybe you can catch him there.”
