Chapter 48. Revenge
Elaine’s arms slid down his body and she took a step back. She ripped her glasses from her face and the back of her palm scrubbed the tear lines from her eyes. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have-”
“No. It’s fine.” He reached for her but she evaded him.
“I should get going. I need to clean up the church.”
His hand tightened around hers. “You’re not going to the reception?”
“I’m not wanted there.” Her jaw jutted forward in that stubborn way it did when she wanted something and was ready to argue about it till the end.
“I’m coming with you.”
“I’m sure you don’t want to get your hands dirty.” She began to march over the broken branches on the footpath. The grass underneath their feet was lower but shabbier than the grass that marked the path.
“Don’t be too sure.” Andrew pulled off his jacket and rolled the sleeves of his white shirt.
She gave him a small smile. “Keep up, Swernbach. We have a lot to do.”
