Anna stumbled backward as one of them shoved her aside, her heart hammering in her chest. “Leave him alone!” She shouted, but it was like voice was only carried by the wind.
“Let go of me!” Zac snarled, lashing out with a hard elbow, catching one man in the ribs.
The guy grunted but didn’t loosen his grip. Another man struck Zac across the jaw, the crack of impact echoing through the small apartment. He staggered but didn’t fall.
Anna’s breath hitched. “Stop! Stop it, please!” She turned to Victor, desperation clawing up her throat. “You don’t have to hurt him!”
Victor sighed, watching the struggle with mild amusement. “He’s the one who’s fighting. Tell him that.”
