Chapter 77
I nodded, my mind racing. I knew that we didn’t have much time left. But I refused to give up hope.
Suddenly, the door to our cell creaked open. A group of Saracens stood in the doorway, their swords at the ready.
“This is it,” I thought. “This is the end.”
But I refused to go down without a fight. I lunged at the nearest Saracen, my fists clenched. The fight was short-lived, but intense. In the end, I was outnumbered and outmatched.
As they dragged William away, I made eye contact with him. “Don’t give up,” I said, my voice barely above a whisper. “Keep fighting.”
The closest Saracen looked at me, a look of disgust on his face. “You are next.” He said, in heavily accented English.
I knew that my own fate was sealed. But I refused to let the memory of my fellow knights die in vain.
