Chapter 10. Nightmare

Elara POV

Snow is soaking through my socks as I run through the woods.

I keep glancing over my shoulder, looking for whoever is chasing me, but I can’t find anyone.

There is a hollow tree a few yards away and I know it is my chance to hide.

Racing to the tree, I squeeze myself inside and hold my breath.

“Come out, come out, wherever you are,” a familiar voice rings through the forest.

My body is shaking, but I don’t know if it is from fear or the cold.

I wrap my arms around myself, trying to keep myself warm, but my teeth begin to chatter.

“I can smell your fear,” the voice laughs. “You can’t hide forever.”

The sound of snow crunching under footsteps gets closer to my hiding spot.

I squeeze my eyes shut and try my best not to move.

“There you are,” the voice laughs. “I have missed you, Little Mate.”
