Chapter 36. She Is a Thief!
Since her intention have been achieved, Lady Hildred lost interest and signaled to Evangeline. “I’m done admiring the flowers; let’s return.”
Although Lady Hildred hadn’t done more than talk, Evangeline sensed that there was more to her visit than a simple warning. However, unable to read minds, she remained uncertain about Lady Hildred’s true intentions, which she was sure she was going to find out soon.
Lady Hildred walked away, and Evangeline returned to her room.
Later that afternoon, just as Evangeline was preparing to take a nap, she was jolted awake by the sound of commotion outside.
Confused and curious, Evangeline and Myra quickly rose from their seats and approached the door. Opening it slightly, they peered outside to see the other maids running in all directions, their voices and footsteps filled with panic and fear.
