Azeeva’s heart ached to hear this. Such a small child was caught up in the mission of greedy creatures. On the other hand, Zee applauded the boy’s intelligence and courage.

Put friends as enemies and enemies as friends, and never let your guard down against anyone, not even yourself. That was more or less the message from Zee’s father when he was sent to the Asylum at eleven. Ridiculously, Azeeva thinks her father put her in the Asylum because he couldn’t be a single father anymore. Azeeva began to feel odd as a teenager—why shouldn’t she be placed in an orphanage?
