Chapter 11
Jolene walked into the company with gay smiles on her face, a breeze of fresh air, and contagious excitement, looking all around her surroundings like she was given a gift she would like to cherish forever.
“Hey, Jolene,” Mark said beside her as he joined her in the elevator.
“Hi, Mark,” Jolene greeted and whipped out her phone to remind herself of the schedule ahead of her for the day.
“How was your weekend?” Mark asked.
Jolene shrugged. “So-so,” she replied indifferently.
Mark laughed, his head tipping backward as he gave a guttural laugh. “Was it that bad?”
Jolene bit her lips, hesitating for a moment before she replied. She couldn’t say it was bad because Aunt Pamela had stayed with her for days and made her weekend worthwhile. “It wasn’t bad.”
“I am relieved. For a moment, I thought you had a bad weekend.”
“Even if it was, someone can hardly avoid it. Some days are just like that.” She shrugged.
