Chapter 3
The stairs creaked as Jolene made her way downstairs from her room. She hissed and rolled her eyes, anger suffusing her bloodstream once more at the new house. It was over a week since they had moved in, and she remembered her reaction as she saw the house. She told her dad she hated the house right outside and had marched in anger.
Coming behind her, her dad chuckled and said the house would grow on her, and she would love it.
Newsflash: Jolene hated the house and had never found a thing to love about it.
She ran her hand through her hair, holding her long tresses in her fists and clenching hard, fighting the urge to pull at it and yell the whole house down.
Sighing, she moved forward, dropping her hand from her hair. Her life was a mess, just like the house they now lived in. She shuddered anytime she thought of how the school she was to be registered to would be if she didn’t like the city.
