Chapter 204. The Upper Hand

Elder Roy studied Maddie for a long moment, his eyes narrowing as he assessed her newfound confidence. Finally, he nodded slowly, a forced smile tugging at his lips. “Very well, Maddie. We’ll play it your way. For now.” 

Maddie relaxed slightly, feeling the tension ease from her shoulders, but she knew that she was playing a very dangerous game. First, it was with Vanessa, and now it was with Elder Roy. She may have been ahead for now, but she feared that this could only be for a moment. 

She knew that she would need a better plan. “Um…I'm a bit tired, I’m going to leave but I will be here tomorrow. As I said, I will help you and do all that I can so you can be back on your feet in no time.” She flashed him a small smile.

“Of course,” the man forced a smile but he was pissed. He nodded and watched her leave the room before letting out a string of cusses.
