Chapter 64. We Do Nothing

Maddie hesitated for a moment outside the cafe, the sight of Jacob stirring a mix of emotions. She had not expected to see him here, and she wondered if he had already spoken to Nate or if this was a coincidence. 

Taking a deep breath, she pushed the door open and stepped inside. Nate looked up from his phone as the bell above the door jingled, his face lighting up with a smile when he saw Maddie. He stood up to greet her, and Jacob, noticing the exchange glanced over with mild curiosity. 

“Morning, Maddie,” Nate said, giving her a quick hug. “Glad you could make it.” 

“Morning,” Maddie replied, her eyes flickering briefly to Jacob. The guy locked eyes with her but quickly peeled his gaze away. He swallowed, feeling a weird sensation in her chest that she could not explain.
