Chapter 80
Cain said nothing. He just watched him silently, not having any more energy to initiate an attack and only wanting to fight more if he had to defend himself.
Clover’s jaw tightened as he looked again at the dead men littering the room; men he knew; men he had worked with for years. All his coworkers were dead all because the man sitting against the wall had decided he was not dying there tonight.
He wanted to just go over there and make Cain pay for it, but he had orders and they were to be followed. Clover inhaled slowly through his nose, visibly restraining himself before speaking.
“I leave for ten fucking minutes…”
Cain gave a dry laugh that hurt his ribs immediately after. “Well, I’m sorry, but they were not planning to let me live much longer. They told me so.”
Clover’s eyes darkened. He clearly wanted to say more and wanted to react, wanted to put a bullet in Cain himself for what he had done, Cain could tell.
But Parley’s order still stood.
