Chapter 81
A few days later.
Cain sat alone in the dim living room with his phone in his hand again, thinking about Liana. Her call had failed again. He stared at the screen for a long second before trying again.
Still nothing. He sucked in breath and let out a tired sigh after. The silence after every failed call was starting to feel cruel. It was almost like the universe had found a way to throw his own bullshit back at him.
Now he understood. This was what he had done to her when he ignored her calls to try and push her away from his life; when he disappeared. Now she had actually left and he couldn’t deal with it. Was this what it felt like? Making someone wonder if they had been abandoned.
