Chapter 85
“Oh,” Liana’s tried not to be judgy, her situation wasn’t exactly blissful as it stood.
Carrie continued carefully. “He got hurt two nights ago. Cain.”
Liana’s head snapped up. “What?”
“He got into another fight.”
“Was it bad?”
“I don’t know exactly,” Carrie admitted. “Jerry said he came back covered in blood and refused stitches till Jay threatened to knock him out himself.”
Liana shut her eyes briefly. Of course he did. “He keeps calling your phone too,” Carrie added quietly. “And just like me, he’s not been able to reach you.”
Liana pressed her lips together hard, holding back the tears in her eyes. “He thinks you’re happier there,” Carrie continued softly. “At least that’s what he tells everyone whenever your name comes up. And now, I’ve started telling people that too, because I don’t know what to say to your co-workers anymore.”
Liana let out a weak laugh that sounded too close to breaking. “Happier?” she repeated faintly.
