He stared down at me while I lay back, letting Doctor Collins wrap my leg in a cast.

“She’ll need proper care,” he said to Alessandro.

Then he turned to me. “And no taking off the cast without coming to see me first,” he warned, a smile on his face right after.

“Thank you, Doctor Collins,” I said.
