“Ria… wait,” Charles said, running after me. By this time, I could feel the pain in my feet—my ankle had started hurting once more.
“Please wait,” he said, holding onto my wrist.
“What happened? You did this the last time… you chased me away back then. I don’t want to let you go or lose you. Tell me what it is,” he said, holding onto me outside the restaurant.
“You won’t understand… I just don’t want to put you in danger,” I panicked, wrangling my wrist.
“In danger, how?” he asked, puzzled.
I might have to come clean—maybe then he’ll let go of me and live his life free of threats.
“There’s a man… he’s been trying so hard to get me, and I’ve declined his offer many times, but he doesn’t seem to give up. He’s been sending threats to eliminate you, and I… I just can’t let anything happen to you because of me,” I said in between sobs.
“Ria…” he pulled me to himself, wrapping his arms around me as he caressed my hair.
