“Do you feel pain anywhere?” Mom asked for the 100th time, even though I had assured her that I was fine. Her being by my side was enough for me.
“I’m fine, Mom. You don’t need to worry,” I said.
She heaved out a sharp breath, putting her face down.
“Mom, please,” I said. I knew she was about to get into another session of crying, which would make me emotional too.
“I can’t help it. I’ve not been a good mother to you. I can’t imagine what you experienced. I failed, Rose,” she said. The tears I had been holding in made themselves out in no time.
I reached for her hand, taking them in mine. “No, Mom. You didn’t. This is bound to happen. But then, nothing happened to me. Just a minor wound. I’m still alive.”
“No, Rose, it is not. You’re not bound to suffer from his torture. I really can’t help it. I won’t be able to rest until I find whoever did this to you,” she seethed, rage burning in her eyes.
